• National Gallery of Art, The Национальная художественная галерея ( в Вашингтоне), один из крупнейших художественных музеев мира. Находится в ведении Смитсоновского института. Открыта в 1941. Государственный художественный музей в составе Смитсоновского института [ Smithsonian Institution] в г. Вашингтоне; расположен в районе Эспланады [ Mall, The]. Открылась в 1941, когда президент Ф. Д. Рузвельт [ Roosevelt, Franklin Delano (FDR)] официально принял ее в качестве дара американскому народу. Основная часть коллекции была подарена будущему музею Э. Меллоном [ Mellon, Andrew William] в 1937; в целом коллекция состоит из даров около 300 граждан и организаций. 21 картину музей купил у ленинградского Эрмитажа. Западное здание [West Building] галереи построено по проекту Дж. Поупа [ Pope, John Russell]. В нем богатая коллекция живописи европейских и американских мастеров XIII- XIX вв., собрание скульптуры от Средневековья до наших дней, богатое собрание китайского фарфора и другие экспонаты. Среди представленных шедевров работы Ботичелли, Леонардо да Винчи, Рафаэля, Тициана, Эль Греко, Вермеера, Рембрандта, Рубенса. В Восточном здании [East Building], ставшем частью музея в 1978, представлено искусство XX века. Здесь же проводятся временные выставки, расположена библиотека.
